Firstly painted a terrain and textured it with a soil material.

Created an organic boolean and duplicated it several times before adding a gold texture to it.

Placed the golden boolean on the terrain and added a surface sea textured with the "DLD Waters" Gentle Ripple material. Final image rendered with a super anti-aliasing and contrast was added in photoshop CS4.
