Used the gear in Source 1 only as a shape to which I clipped the black and gray 'disc' from the Locomotive, seen on the lower front (right) of the finished piece.

Levels adjustments to sky.

Making the stars - see tutorial, I followed it fairly closely, but also added the noise and levels to the original color gradient part of the background.

Matched the color of the gauges to the main circular part of the source image which I called the lens.
Painted in some smoke, dodged some areas of the 'ocean'. Final cleanup and tweaks.
