step 1 of 7

I started by duplicating the background source several times, so it was one long seamless image (around 15000 pxl long). With the warp toll I warped it around a circle, which I made before using the custom shape tools. After that I made a selection of the circle to get the straight edge under the grass. The border was added with the golden texture and layer styles.

step 2 of 7

I drew some helplines to get the proportions right and added the compass in the middle. I cloned the pointer out and added the yellow dragon.
The ivy was added the same way, I made the grass.

step 3 of 7

I added the stones and arranged the ropes around them. The letters where copied from the Wiki page I provided in my description and added with opacity set to 68%. The long rope was made out of the small rope parts.

step 4 of 7

I added the animals and the trees. The shell of the turtle was colored black and the dragon light blue.

step 5 of 7

I copied the tree layers and masked the branches with the background eraser tool. I placed them in front of the original image and the ropes to make them look a bit more alive.

step 6 of 7

I used always one part of the image from the left and part of
the image from the right and blended them together. Different sky colours and ground structures made that a bit annoying, so I had to copy, clone and erase a lot.

Creation of Wheel of seasons: Step 6

step 7 of 7

I added the background and the dragons. I copied the final merged layer, used gaussian blur with the blending mode set to soft light and a sepia photo filter.
