I started of by drawing the shape of a hand holding up its middle finger. I did this with a wacom tablet and the brush tool in photoshop.

I then shaded in areas keeping in mind a light source. I did this in the same manner as the first step.

I then used the pen tool and traced my shaded areas. I filled these paths in with the same color I used to shade the given area.

I then created a "Have a Nice day brush" I created two other brushes, one said "Have a" and the other said "Nice Day". I then selected the black area and began filling it in with these brushes.

I then selected the gray area and filled it in the same manner as the previous step.

I repeated step four and five with the lighter gray area this time.

I then made the background black and began to fill the white area.

In this step I used the burn tool to create some shadows.

Here I added have a nice day to the piece and a sideways smiley face.

I then rotated the smiley so that it was not sideways.
