step 1 of 6

[I was inspired by the Russian-revolutionary poster in Steve Caplin's "Art & Design in Photoshop."] Extract horse and man. Reorient fingers and arm using Puppet Warp, Liquify, Heal.

Creation of Union is Strength!: Step 1

step 2 of 6

Create a pair of shoulder-to-shoulder lefties, one brandishing a hammer and one waving a sickle.

Creation of Union is Strength!: Step 2

step 3 of 6

Convert to black and white and copy to form an army of lefties. (I had to squish the sickle to keep it away from the neighboring hammer.) Add a duplicate layer on top of each row with Filter>Sketch>Photocopy applied (foreground black, background cream) and blending mode of Multiply. Play with brightness and opacity of the various elements.

step 4 of 6

The layout of the text determines the positioning of the red slash. Layer of black shadow along the red edge in blend mode of Dissolve creates the speckling.

Creation of Union is Strength!: Step 4

step 5 of 6

Add the various elements as black and white images with Photocopy layers on top -- except for the army star which is just Linear Burn.

Creation of Union is Strength!: Step 5

step 6 of 6

Post the poster on a wall.
