Make path around the largest feather.

Make selection of the feather and cut out part of the source image.

Add shadow and inner glow to give each feather a bit of depth

place feathers over-lapping using the bird image as a template.

Cut-out the other feathers

Use the same layer style as first feathers but add colour overlay set on multiply at around half the opacity to create the birds' different feathers.

For the beak, I used the smooth part of the source image to match the texture.
