Creation of Playing with color.....: Step 1

step 2 of 7

Working completely in illustrator, I began by drawing out my fish with the pen tool. I will be creating a symbol out of this to be able to use it multiple times.

step 3 of 7

I moved on from here and sketched out the main part of my octopus with the pen tool

step 4 of 7

Starting by drawing out a circle and filling it with my chosen color, I used the transform and applied these settings to get the first of the legs done

step 5 of 7

I then applied the transform once again with these other settings to get the other legs.

Creation of Playing with color.....: Step 5

step 6 of 7

I created the ornaments on the fishes body in the same manner that I had on the octopus legs.

Creation of Playing with color.....: Step 6

step 7 of 7

After applying the color and details to the fish and octopus, I continued to draw out layers of color for the water. Adding some loose sketches to give the hint of plants and ferns, and bubbles for the fish helps complete the picture. I also created some custom brushes to add the speckled look to one layer of the water and the other details you see. Everything was created by me in the colors in my pallet, no blending modes or mixing of colors.
