close-cut and desaturate tail then place into background photo

warp tail

after blending of tail in a separate layer add white for the highlight - reduce opacity - erase with soft brush what is not needed.

Add shadows with black and soft brush

in a separate layer above main layer add white with brush it will be for highlights.

this is the difference.
For the highlights I used color dodge mode in layer and reduced the opacity to 30%

save as flattened image then duplicate layer. the top layer blur then reduce opacity around 40% (you have more blur control this way IMO) It will look like this

Adjust levels and then add color
