A Work in Progress: Ice on the fire

step 1 of 3

My intention was to build an deformable hallo light in 3D. Waste a lot of time on web, searching on books, nothing, only complicated solutions with crappy results.
Finally I' ve made my own tests and I found this very simple way.
Build a Sphere - I used a Geosphere - and assign mr Physicall Glass as material. Into the sphere create a mr omni light. Magnitude of the light will be given by the Start-End far attenuation. Thats all. You can play with color or maps on Projector map.
To deform the light just apply a deform modifier to the sphere (noise, displacement, what you want )
For the small lights on bakground I ve tried first to clone the sphere AND the lights but time render raise too much. No necessary. Its enough to clone the glass sphere, various sizes or modifiers, lights will be reflected. On this entry I have only 4 mr omni
A last problem, sphere should be big enough and light not very close of sphere cap, otherwise, when Final Gather is enabled can see the model of phisycall glass.

You are my guets to play and to use this simple solution for making the most amazing suns, stars or comets..

ground is just a sphere with disp mod and frozen glass as material, can use anything.
