step 1 of 5

My first step was to cut out the champagne bottle using the pen tool, and place it on a clean black background. I then used a star shaped brush with high opacity to create some depth to the background. I then lowered the opacity and placed a few more around the centrl image. I then applied a lens filter to focus on the middle and unfocus the edges (the intent was to make it look like a sparkler in the background).

My next step was to create the diver, I cut the image out from the background and increased the saturation. I also adlusted the hue so the small amount of colour on the image was yellow to match the light behind. The blend mode was set to 'pin light.

Next I cut out the image of the flowing water, duplicated it to create enough volume without losing the detail, and overlayed it on a layer mask of the diver.

Now I extended the canvas size down as I wanted to give a glass for the diver to be going towards. I pasted this on the bottom of the image, and diplicated the rim of the glass to give it more depth (as some of the light is coming from behind and would highlight this part of the glass).

I also put the bottle back in frame, and blurred each of these images by about 3 pixels just to give more focus to the diver in the centre.

Finally, I changed the colour of the galss with a hue/saturation filter, and added some splash around the diver, masking out any obvious edges and giving it a slight motion blur. I also darkened the background a little.
