step 1 of 2

To create eyeballs.
create circle. FILL with black.

select black circle . create new layer and then-
SELECT>MODIFY>CONTRACT 10. FILL with blue/ white=f8f8fd

ADD SOLID COLOUR LAYER> Go to Layers palete. select half coloured circle. click >SOLID COLOUR. colour 371eb7
(use solid colour layer because it allows flexibility of changing eye colour at a later stage) Use a Hard brush , brush colour set to white and create blue circle.

duplicate blue circle layer and change the blue to766ae7- using a speckled/slatter brush and brush set to BLACK - randomly paint over circle.

once again duplicate DARK BLUE SOLID LAYER. now Select the following from tool bar. LAYER> RASTERIZE >FILL CONTENT.

Select a soft brush , small size. ( size will depend on size of eye your working on ) Now click on burn tool. setting MIDTONE>25-50% ( adjust as you work) and brush over the blue to give flecks in the eye. Then click on DODGE TOOL. Same settings and brush over eye. Switch between the two until you get light and shadows.

Add new layer. select soft brush. Colour Black . Add a black circle for centre of eye.

Add new layer. Select small hard brush. Colour white. Add a couple of white dots. Select BLUR TOOL. blur dots . The select hard brush and put one slightly larger white dot . do not blur this one.

All that is left to do is add a little shape to the LARGE white/blue circle.
Click on white/blue circle layer: SELECT> BURN TOOL.>20% > Soft brush and gently brush around the edges. you can also add a little DODGE for shape.

CHANGING EYE COLOUR:

Select DARK BLUE SOLID LAYER ( first dark blue layer) . Double click this layer and bring up colour select box. Select desired colour and eye colour will change.

For creativity you can even swap SOLID LAYER for GRADIENT layer.

WAHLA. your done.

Creation of Mat and his Mathematical mates: Step 1

step 2 of 2

To create Mat and his mates:

You will need to have 3 colours in mind. (2 is too little , you can use more but it becomes complex for pattern and visually)

create new document.

drag out guidelines.
use rulers to make sure you create perfect square.
Size is personal choice. I originally made mine 4 x 4
You only need to create ONE square.

Click on >PEN TOOL setting >PATHS. Use guidelines create square.

Go to layers Palete. Click on half coloured circle> SOLID COLOUR. ( colour does not matter)

Duplicate until you have 3 squares. Double click each layer and change the colours to your choice.

Now you should have 3 layers, showing 3 Squares.
each square coloured to your choice. MINE: TEAL>BROWN>ORANGE

now to create the triangles.
( tails of fish)

I will refer here to the colours that i have used.

in my example:
duplicate 1 teal square.
use pen tool settings>PATHS . click top left corner, bottom right corner back to top left corner. you should be left with a triangle at the top right corner.

you will have a few rough edges. click eraser and erase. PHOTOSHOP will say do you want to RASTERIZE layer, click yes. remove any rough edges from the removed left triangle.

to create joining triangles:
duplicate a square , making sure triangle layer is ABOVE square, drag triangle to fit in place.

you will see in example.

BROWN TRIANGLE
ORANGE SQUARE

drag brown triangle on to orange square and merge.

merging triangle with square makes a neater finish than merging 2 triangles.

Once you have created your BASIC pattern. 3 coloured squares and 3 triangles it is a matter of matching and creating a pattern.

IN my creation i created the pattern horizontally then rotated 90 degrees . then duplicated the pattern to fill the page.

I created the eyes as in step one and then positioned . I created different eyes .. only personal preference at the time you can just create 3 eyes the same and them duplicate until you reach your desired pattern.
