I wanted to make sure I had the right brush to stroke the paths with, I customised a simple 4 point star to get the effect I wanted.

Using a octagon pen tool I drew some random shapes.[On the left.] Then using the warp tool I made these into a more attractive spire.

Duplicated and rotated.

Duplicating, Rotating and a bit of flipping horizontally.

Added some drop shadow, outer glow, very subtly, textured. Duplicated the whole thing. Played with lighting etc.

Threw 4 small randomly rotated flakes behind and applied a Gaussian blur, and done.
