The sky is a simple blue gradient.

Using a natural brush I added low opacity layers of dark blue, to give the sky more depth.

Again with the natural brushes I added the clouds and used the blur and smudge tools to create the fluff in the clouds.

The grass is just two layers of light and dark green smudged together with the smudge tool.

Copied the grass layer and added some gaussian blur to give depth of field.

The tree was created using the pen tool, then used several different browns and smudged them for grain and also added dodge and burn

Drew a rough outline of a beaver with a thin brush,

To create the fur I used the smudge tool and dragged the fur out.

added teeth with pen tool coloured slightly yellow, burned and dodge, started to add more shadows/highlights to the tree and beaver

Added the leaves with a default leaf brush, used several different layers of colour to give leaves more natural look,

added thew tree eyes with pen tool and dodged and burned, used more smudge tool to shape the face more and add eyebrows.
