Magic wand to isolate the continents, then again to fill and once more (using stroke) for the outline. Darker green and yellow on layers.

Decided to put the map on parchment, so I used color adjustment and levels to change the colors.

The parchment was made by using lighter yellow and darker yellow in splotches and then blurring. The border is two layers of smudged paint.

Elliptical marquee tool and pen tool (using stroke) to make the compass. Details were drawn in using a calligraphy brush. Radagund font for compass points.

I used a silk road map as a reference for the routes and checked with different maps for the names of the stopping points. Drew in the water falls and sea monsters. Radagund font for the text.

Drew in the creases and splotches. Used liquify to tatter the edges.
