First of all I made the heart using the blending modes shown in the picture.
All hearts have the same blending modes.

I added both trees and the path.
I dodged and burned the tree from the source to match it better to the light source.
(At least I tried it ;) )
Besides that I also added the symbols from the source tree on the branch of the other tree.

I added the hearts and made an overlay for the path with the same text I used for the hearts with blending mode set to linear burn and opacity of 82%

Now the flying books and the boy and the girl with a little shadow work for the children to match the light source better.

The glitter around the tree was done with a Photoshop standard brush, as you can see in the following pictures. (Probably only see and not read, cause it is german, but I thought, that I give it a try, to prove, that it is a standard brush ;) )

For the final touch I added a dark yellow fotofilter with the amount of 50, copied this layer, used gaussian blur with the amount of 5 and set the blending mode to soft light
