I used a displacement map and some warping. also a inner glow to the edges.

some hue and saturation red source color" to the wings and body, also a layer below with motion blur.

selected the sphere,

then do a feathering to the edge, Ctrl J to copy and delete prior layer to show feathered layer.
step 5 of 5
lowered opacity on the farest away layers and used some blur tool brush.
