step 1 of 6

Copy the sourse image and remove all stuff but the background using clone tool and healig brush. Apply a gaussian blur to smooth it a bit and a tiny bit of stained glass filter to give it a lens defocus look

Creation of The Halloween Pendulum: Step 1

step 2 of 6

Take a 3d render of a pendulum with alfa channel and spec (You can use a real picture of a pendulum and get really nice specular and reflections) to composite over the background. I can't upload a PNG with transparency, but you can see it here.

Creation of The Halloween Pendulum: Step 2

step 3 of 6

You have to cut the little berries one by one, I use eliptical selection tool and transform selection, also the pen tool is a good idea to draw a shape and turn it to a selection. Put a Halloween face over the berry with a bebel layer style to give it a sense of deep (remember to match the light direction for the bebel)

step 4 of 6

Now you can match the berries with the respective pendulum balls and faces, I didn't want to replace all balls, but you can duplicate berries and do it. I like the way the right side of the pendulum seems to be de evil one coming to torment the other.

Creation of The Halloween Pendulum: Step 4

step 5 of 6

I forgot to say in the last step, I use multiply as the blend mode to merge the berries and the pendulum en still conserve the reflections. Now you duplicate the left berry and fli it horizontally. Put it over the next pendulum ball and use a gradient as a layer mask, lower the oppacity if needed to get the efect.

Creation of The Halloween Pendulum: Step 5

step 6 of 6

Just a vignette effect using the eliptical tool and adding some text in a "bad movie poster" like style.
This is my first contest work and tutorial, please coment what I did wrong.
Hope you like it.
