@ CMYK46: It depends on the thickness of the matter in question. I agree the closest glass should probably have the liquid inside more inclined to the left if it was water or wine.
I give you some reasons for the levels to do not look real in this case:
1. Even on the source picture you can see the red glass has a fixed material inside, couldn't this be the case? :P
2. It's even true blue which makes you think it's some sort of non real material or perhaps a blue jelly?
3. The glasses could be moving a little as she steps in and out which would affect the levels at the moment she does.

I'm not trying to excuse my supposedly mistake but in fantasy art what's real and not is relative. If you had picked on the shadows i would totally agree. Reply »

Intriguing with the odd elements, very constrained color palette, and dramatic brightness difference between the left and right sides, but in the end I just don't get it. While I see a 'path' (the railroad tracks, I assume), the 'sink(ing)' element seems disconnected from those tracks. The window thing encompassing the sink seems nearer than the far end of the tracks so I would expect some shadow from that window onto the tracks. The cut off corner on the window is weird.

Maybe shortening the title to just "Sinking" and making the window/sink element vertical and complete plus positioning it a bit more towards the left side of the image with a ground shadow would be a dramatic contrast against the left-side background and have a surrealistic appeal overall. Reply »

She's actually under the bulb's cables and if you look even more carefully CMYK46 she's under the bird too (the contest doesn't specify that she has to be under a large surface such as a bed or a table), even tho the last one doesn't really count due to it's reduced dimensions. Besides that, i wonder why do you always have to come comment on my entries (to provoke me), don't you get full of yourself and that useless hate? IMO since the leaf is falling down there must be a tree nearby
there it might need some tree shadows because the light source is quite strong from the left. but this is just my horrible suggestion

Light comes from behind, all shadows are combined (see the temple and ice shards shadows) so i guess elephant's reflection is not wrong. Reply »

Author, maybe Kevin is right (if that shine we see in the middle-right is the light source)... And reflection is a bit sharp/hard (observe the clouds reflection). But it's a nice compo. Reply »

by the way , reflections and shadows are two different things
1.shadow is cast by an object in a way opposite to the light source.
2.reflection is the object viewed in a reflective surface .
so the reflection is not dependent from the light source, but from the angle of the viewer and the angle of the reflective surface.
So in this case i think the reflection should be almost parallel
....having sad that , the image is great i personally don't care much about reality of the unreal world it looks good and good luck

Clearly better. Going to the next level --> If you take your background pic, make a copy of the top half from the horizon line up to the top of the sky, flip it vertically, and position it over the bottom half from the horizon line down, then you will see that it's virtually a perfect match of the lake reflections. Ergo, the lake is a pretty good mirror that takes on some fun-house-mirror characteristics where it gets disturbed. Lessons for you: The elephant is in front of the clouds in the real world so it also needs to be in front of the clouds in the reflected world. A reflection of the sky whirlpool should be part of the bottom of your image. The spired temples amongst the clouds as well as the moon have to be reflected in the lake. Ripple filter and smudging will obviously be needed. Separate issues: The fish and shell seem dubious -- and virtually unnoticeable without a hi-res. I'd make all the spires perfectly vertical.
