It 's a hen. It's hidden in the hay and you see only the tail.

I'm loving the way you framed this (it reminds me of an album cover for some reason)! The dark background also helps to separate it from the lightness of the horse's head. The flash, however, seems to have made the head flat and somewhat washed out/dimensionless. Did you use an onboard flash or did you bounce it off of something? If you shoot something like this in the future try using a reflector (or even a large sheet of foil) to get some light in from the side. This will help to create depth and give interesting shadows to your subject's face. Overall though very nice job! All the best!

Shooting during the day is a lot easier

all i have is my pop up flash. and at the time i didnt have any other equipment. i now use my reflector and shoot at better times of day. this was about 30 minutes before complete darkness
