Rules & Guidelines - Drawing

Intro

The following rules are specific to the drawing contests. Make sure to read the carefully before participating. Also make sure to read the more general contest rules.

We have digital drawing and traditional drawing contests on pxleyes. Digital drawing is done via any software that has drawing possibilities. Traditional drawing is done on any offline medium such as paper or carton. Participation in these contests can be done by uploading a scanned or photographed version of your drawing.

Traditional Drawing

In a tradional drawing contest, only scanned or photographed entries of handdrawn pictures are allowed. Traditional Drawing on pxleyes is not limited to pencil drawings. You can use any drawing tool, like chalk, a pen or even paint (please mention in your description what tools you used for your drawing).

To keep the contests fair, these contests require that you post at least 2 intermediate steps of your drawing in a step by step guide, so we can see the progress of your work. (also on older drawings; on those you can redraw a part of the entry.

7.1. Don't trace: Show us the technique used and convince us you have the skills)...

7.2. Digital editing of handmade drawings is not allowed, unless they are simple things as specified in rule 7.5.

7.3. Reference photos: are allowed (no copyrighted images), but should be mentioned in your SBS.

7.4. References can be used to look at and study BUT you are not allowed to make an exact or close copy of the reference. As it has to be your own artwork you'll have to create your own interpretation of the reference without making it your goal to make a (close) copy of the reference.

7.5. Filters: You are only allowed to digitally adjust the brightness and remove scratches. If you do you'll have to post the pre-version as an extra step in your SBS and tell in those steps what you did.

Digital Drawing

7.6.: In a digital drawing contest, your drawing has to be entirely made in a graphics program.

7.7.: Paper drawings are allowed to use as a base image, but should not appear as a paper sketch in your digital work.. You can also use a paper sketch or photo as a reference for your digital work (Don't forget to include this reference in your SBS guide - no copyrighted reference images).

7.8.: To keep the contests fair, these contests require that you post at least 2 intermediate steps of your drawing in a step by step guide, so we can see the progress of your work.

7.9.: All digital tools are allowed to use., as long as they basically can be used for drawing or coloring it's ok. The use of standard filters, shapes and brushes are allowed (meaning those which do come with your digital program).

7.10.: It is NOT allowed to TRACE a reference photo and / or art.

7.11.: Furthermore all normal Pxleyes rules will apply (when in doubt or they seem to contradict: ask!)

7.12.: References can be used to look at and study BUT you are not allowed to make an exact or close copy of the reference. As it has to be your own artwork you'll have to create your own interpretation of the reference without making it your goal to make a (close) copy of the reference.

7.13.: Pre-made brushes which are actual images are not allowed. Built-in brushes are allowed. Self made brushes are allowed too, but you must show us how you made them in the SBS.

"Complex" brushes are not allowed to use. To give you an idea of what we mean by "complex" brush, here are a few examples:
