Great modeling and texturing! Nice and smooth. Great use of colors. I'm always glad to see someone who dares to go beyond the easy way out - mint condition with reflections - and put some time on the texturing instead, instead of using the preset textures. If you want to experiment further you could add more UV-maps for diffuse, bump and a small blurred reflection.

Excellent work on the pieces and board! I really like the gold side. However, I'm not too crazy about the floor it's on. Perhaps a different material on the plane would look better?

the pieces are a little too shiny..especially the knight...can't really tell what the model looks like

Nice work.....Nice idea as well...It would have been even better if your levels would have been according to the level of the chess piece...Like the king is having a high level stair but the others are pawns and at different levels. You could have put some other pieces as well but overall a very nice work....

Give this a try, render with Ambient Occlusion turned on. Select the clapperboard to the left of the cube in the tool bar at the top. Then click on the effect tab and then choose Ambient Occlusion. Also In the Anti-Aliasing make sure Geometry drop down is changed to Best. Then render to picture viewer.
