We will be using a house in a sunny green environment to apply our snow effects to.
Let's get started.

Step 1
This is the image we will use to add the snow effect to.

Step 2
The image size is 12 inch X 8 inch and the resolution is 100. Adjust the colors of this image.
Go to "Image -> Adjustment -> Hue/Saturation" and reduce the saturation and lightness.
Step 3
Double click the layer and select blending option "add gradient overlay" for the following values.

Step 4
Use the pen tool and select the marked area. (see the yellow line)

Step 5
This image shows you the path.

Step 6
Right click the path option, and select "make selection".

Step 7
Enter the feather radius 1 pixels.

Step 8
Now create a new layer and fill the path selection with white color.

Step 9
Select brush tool from tool menu and select "spatter 27 pixels" brush from the brush gallery and enable the scattering option. (see the image below)

Step 10
The brush size is 25.

Step 11
Use the brush tool and select the white color and brush the edges so they look like the below image.

Step 12
Apply the same steps on the other side.

Step 13
And little bit of brush on the walls, windows and trees.

Step 14
Select the grass and fill it with white color.

Step 15
Touch the edges with Brush tool.

Step 16
Then go to "Layer -> New adjustment Layer -> Gradient".

Step 17
Enter this value.

Step 18
Now create another new layer and fill it with black color.

Step 19
Then goto "Filter -> Sketch -> Graphic pen".

Step 20
Apply these values.

Step 21
Now set the blending mode to "screen" and reduce the fill to 80%. Then go to "filter -> blur -> motion blur".

Step 22
Apply the following value.

Step 23
This is the final image.

Step 24
Hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Good Luck!

(207 days ago)Nice tut. I might suggest adding a slight gaussian blur (about .5 or so) to the falling snow layer for added realism.

a word of thanks ... I am on an ancient Photoshop, but was still able to make it happen. Took a barn, shot in deep summer, and turned it into a chilly winter scene!!! YAY!!! thank you very much!!!
