Would have worked better if you'd whitened the real lion so it blended into the statue more. The color difference is too distracting.

I think the hands need to be less jagged in places and maybe the eye would look more sinister with the lids slightly closed in appearence... you've made a good start...

The black hands don't make it look very hopeful, looks kind of scary. A bit of glow around it might help, too.
