This is a great shot. I love the lighting on the oil and the bottle. One small critisism is that I find the streak of light on the pepper mill a little distracting

A nice attempt, but for me the focal point is not the part that stands out on the page and draws the eye (that being the large text at the bottom of the screen). A little larger area of focus might be nice too (imo of course)

If I may, I think the issue with this image is that there is nothing that really draws attention in, especially when competing with such a strong background.

If you look at the objects on the left wall, it drags your eye down, and the thing that stands out the most is the red tassle (which leads the eye down and out of the picture).

I hope you don't think my criticism is too harsh, but I think you could work on the composition a little more.

I have to disagree with you on that one fallinghorse, if you do that you will lose the pillars of the bridge which give some further interest and structure to the photo imo.

I see what you're trying to do here, but the reason it does not look very convincing is that the perspectives dont match. The path rises much too steeply when you compare it to the ground in the source pic.

Cool, how did you get this, was it a long exposure and then you toppled the stack at the end?

Personally I thisnk this is too recognisable as coming from the same shoot as your other entry. The other one is the one to keep in the contest IMO.

Fallinghorse, I think the effect you are looking at is a result of dramatic contrast adjustments. That caught my eye too.

Dude relax, I have no problem with your friend, I'm sure he's an awesome guy. I just meant it takes away from the photo to have someone else in the background trying to take a shot too, but that it was lucky you could use such a shot for this contest.

What is the size/resolution of your original image? It looks pretty pixelated even in the small view so I dare say this is as 'high res' as it gets...

I love the image, very elegant, but this clearly has a lot of grey in it (if it was all white the whole leaf would just be one white shape - which would probably still look nice).

That light is very effective, and this is a very high quality shot. Because of the science-fiction type vibe to this shot as Cocor said, I think you could also try this shot with a really wide (scared looking) eye too!

Nice job overall, some very good points made above. The only thing that concerns me about the composition is that the little child is right under the monsters head, yet seems to be looking off into the distance rather than up at its face.
