Hi, thanks for your comment on my blurry apple core photo (which has since been replaced with an avocado). Yes it's a compact (Insignia - a Sony knockoff) and I took the pic from 4 feet away - zoomed all the way in to try and get a small depth of field, but the multi and spot focus have a weird habit of picking the background to focus on rather than the center of frame. I have since changed the focus setting to "center" and it's a little better, except when I get too close to the subject, so that IS a factor I have to be careful about in the future. I've also noticed it doesn't like to focus on objects that have too much white in them, so I'm having to figure out all the little quirks with this camera.
