I used parts of the source image to reconstruct the two characters based on the initial dolls image presented as source number 1.
I added shadows/highlights using different grey brushes and I colored some parts of the two characters.
I have created the moon and the land out of the top bread in the source image.
Added the sky in the backround, some trees silhouettes on the sides and birds.
In order to get better coloring I added a lot of different gradient adjustment layers, changed the blending mode to color and played with opacities.
Hope you like it! (3 years and 320 days ago)

very nice creation. only some lighting issues(light source is from back side- shadow shows the direction of light) but some light is falling on the face also. Instead of highlight use midtones only in the face. GL Reply »

Thank you very much for your excellent comments! I will post the SBS tomorrow as I really have to run to work now! Thank you "gopankarichal" for the good remark. Still....I believe some light would drop on their faces as well...! I kind of like the shadowing I've reached! Will think about it...! Have fun you all! Reply »

Very well done. I especially like the time and attention that was paid to the little boy in the picture. The only change would make would be to extend the "grass" a bit so you didn't have that black gap on the left edge of the picture. Other than that, it's amazing. Reply »

Very good, I not sure about the black glow around the girls head and the strangly pin sharp birds in the background when everything else is soft focus. If the figures are casting such strong shadows their faces would be almost black Reply »

The girl also needs anchoring to the ground she seems to be floating, IMHO Reply »

Very creepy, unsettling, and Tim-Burton-like. I like the strong light and shadow contrast on the figures, but the light and shadows of the background don't match that well. In hi-res the girl's dress seems to cast a shadow on the painted backdrop when I would like this to be a 3-D environment. A side light appears to be illuminating the figures yet their ground shadows are from a back light which is consistent with the background. I would shift the ground shadows and tone down the background to give the impression it's illuminated by the same side light shining on the figures. Reply »

This is great and I plan to study your SBS to learn from it. For those who want the faces to be dark, they could easily be getting reflected light on their faces. Reply »

OOHHH very Tim Burton.. Looking at the hi res you have a slight halo effect on the edges especially in darker areas of the background. Nice work. Reply »
