Thanks goes to you guys for responding to my post.

let me be clear about one thing i do not blame the mods for any short comings i have in contests. I rarely have entries pulled, but when i do it seems to be for the most arbitrary reasons, or the mod did not feel that it fit in the theme of the contest, but in my mind it did, as the contest theme is what sparked my interest or thought process in the first place. I know the mods have it rough so in no way do i wish to sound as if i am attacking their hard work.

The comments are supposed to be to help, not get points.

one of you said this, which i completely agree on is that this site is for learning, i am not worried entirely about getting points and winning, though you all know it feels good to have your work recognized in that way. I am more concerned about the lack of learning on this site these days. I see a couple people that post up entries each week, sometimes multiple in the same contest and even in multiple contests. I comment on their images regularly, making suggestions and trying to help the best i can without becoming their personal tutor. It just makes me sad that their method is law of averages instead of putting the time and effort into one image and making it the best it can be. I constantly miss deadlines for contests because i'm still working on an image because I get down to pixel level to make some changes to ensure the proper blending, and correct look is achieved. I'm not saying i'm right, but i guess i'm saying that i have no more to learn from this site, so i need to find another site that is more "challenging".

I know i'll pop in from time to time, but i don't think i'll be on here week after week only to be disappointed that my image was beaten by someone whom refuses to learn even some of the basics of the program they use so much each week.

And to all that mentioned to make images for myself, not for winning, well that is what i do. but entering them into the contests puts them on the front lines to be judged by my peers. that kind of makes it not just for me. if i made it just for myself then you all would never see them. ;]

And to space ranger. please feel free to view my portfolio and let me know from your trained eye what is wrong with some of my works. i would love that! Also i have had many paid gigs for my work, so i would actually consider myself a pro... but perhaps i am not. ;]

Forum

The forum is a place to hang out, have fun and get to know other people. It's NOT a place to complain and insult others. Because forum discussions can get completely out of hand, here are some rules about posting on the forum:

4.1: Don't post personal attacks.

4.2: Don't complain about an entry that you think does not deserve that high or low spot. Although, this may be your opinion, the general public obviously thought differently about it.

4.3: Don't blame voters for the low score of your entry. You were probably expecting better results for your entry, but complaining about it won't change anything. Results are final.

4.4: Don't complain in public about any of the site rules, about the vote system or about someones vote behaviour. There is nothing wrong with posting a good suggestion and ask other opinions about it on the forums. But, complaining or whining won't help.

4.5: If you are not sure, keep it private. Sending a complaint or suggestion to the administration has more effect than doing it on the forum.

4.6: Read the FAQ and do a search on the forum first, before you ask a question. Many questions were already answered in an older thread or are explained on the FAQ page.

4.7: If you post on the forum that you are leaving the site, the thread will be removed. Everyone has the right to leave this site if they're not happy. These guidelines are here to keep everyone happy. If you are not satisfied and you decide to leave the site, there's no reason to start a thread about. Afterall, you left the site, so you can't read the responses anyway.

Violation of these rules can result in removal of your account on the forum. If you break forum rules, but not the site rules, your forum account can be removed and your site account can remain active. :-?

Loyd is right to point out the rules but there have been many good points brought up here and I don't think you're the only member with these thoughts. I understand the reason for the rules but to ignore members who are frustrated or have disagreements with the way they perceive the site won't really help make things better. IMO it's better to air out these thoughts as a community and share them just as any healthy democratic community in society would do rather than quash them as a dictatorship or communist regime would. Admin may not agree with me and being a moderator I have to respect that but I am still a member and I will express my point of view honestly.
bjaockx you didn't have to say you're leaving, you could just take a break. No need to burn your bridges or take your bat and your ball home just because the game isn't going your way. I'm willing to discuss things with you if you wish so if you're still a member (Admin might remove your account for saying you were leaving) send me a PM and we'll talk, if not I wish you all the best and hope you'll keep working and learning.

Yes what Ranger said. Many good points here.
BJ you got over 30% average for 20 entries. This ain't bad.
Your 1st place win I know did not take near the work as the issue on your last entry.
Go figure, but it happens here a lot.
Art is a different animal and always will be. Like Rein says, take a break, don't quit.
You been here a long time man. I really hate to see the old crowd dwindle.
Just piss on it and continue forth. :-BD
