Resize it in Photoshop if you have it.

Go Image>Image Size and then click the drop down box so that it is at "percentage". Change that to your desired size (probably around 75% in your case).

That's how I do it anyway.

If you are using Photoshop, use Save for web and devices, and change the pixels until it's the size you want, Megabytes. One size doesn't fit all, depends on how much detail there is in the image.

less file size = less quality... thats just how it works I`m afraid. Using friiskiwi`s method will lose quality whilst keeping it at the same size. Solkee`s method reduces the size but keeps the quality (pretty much). It all depends on what it is you need.. the actual size reducing or the file size reducing. Let us know more about what you`re trying to do and we might be able to offer more alternatives (I`ve got many). :-)

edit/afterthought: you could give it to one of us PS geeks with a preferred file size and we`ll give it as much detail as it can handle

I wasn't suggesting lowering the quality, but changing the size. It's just that you can see the result better in Save for web and devices and change the colourspace to Srgb at the same time which is better for the web.
