I have to agree with you on this one also. Chappy makes a valid point here.

I am new here so can't speak to the "old" method but I think that showing peoples names may be just escalate the situation. If people see that you have given them a thumbs down they will start to give you thumbs down and then you will ... well I am sure you can see my point.
Is there a way to monitor if someone is targeting people and take away their thumbs up/down voting privileges if they abuse them? I don't know if this would be too complicated to manage but it may make some people think before hitting that button. Or perhaps you could list in the stats how many Thumbs up/down votes each person gives ...not who they give them too. That way if someone is excessive with them they could be ostracized in a non aggressive manner. You can't stop voting for them as that part is anonymous but the core members (those who do the majority of commenting etc.) could stop making comments once the Author is revealed, no congrats when they do win, don't respond to PM's or posts in the the forums; generally, ignoring them and their bad behavoir ... it works with children so maybe it would work with people who behave worse than children! In the end, there will always be people who want to control, ridicule and bully; no matter what method you try I am sure they will find a way to continue in a disruptive manner. You can only try to let them know that they have lost your respect and that you consider them juvenile. Beyond that they really aren't worth your notice or attention. Okay ...now you all know that I talk way too much ![]() On the road of life ... shortcuts are not always a good idea! But they are great in Photoshop

How about only a thumbsup button and no thumbsdown? But how would you express to disagree with someone like that?
The only problem is that some people abuse this and thumb down everything from people they don't like... no matter what the comment is about... This is not really what it's for. |

Better idea is to bring back the facility, that showing comment voter's without showing the author name. Or show after the contest ends. I think thumb down increased because of the anonymity.

I think it's a good choice. If I don't see the comment contributing anything or in a good manner, I just don't give it any thumb up. After the contest ends, the comment with 0 thumb up means no one agrees with it. However, can we have an option of reporting a bad comment? And of course the mods can see who report them. If someone abuses the reporting system, mods will know who they are, can warn them and even ban if they insist to do that.

With the gold/silver/bronze system, I would bronze anyone who made a comment. I figured it was a way to say thank you for looking over my work. If they pointed out an area that needed improvement, I would bronze them and on the rare occassions when they would suggest a way on how to improve it, they would get a gold.
With the current system, I can either thumbs up everyone (thanks for stopping by) or only thumbs up those who would otherwise get a silver or gold. I will admit sometimes that thumbs down button is very, very tempting. I would prefer it if it wasn't there at all. You know, being human and all...So, yeah, I'd like to see the medals come back. Let the mean people be frustrated and the good folks be rewarded. (And save me from myself, in the process. )Schrodinger's cat lives! (No, it doesn't.)

I've said it before; I see the thumbs up - thumbs down system as a way to say the same as the commenter, instead of heaving 10 "good entry"-comment 1 is enough and ppl can just give it a thumbs up.
On the other hand I see a future for the thumbs down too, there's a lot of BS comments (either ppl just disliking eachother or ppl just don't have a clue what they are talking about). The thumbs down is good for this. Maybe a solution would be just to post the number of thumbs up and down given instead of adding and substracting them. FI:
Adding and substracting a small amount of points to the rep.system can be gone, if someone is giving the thumbs because he-she (dis)likes someone he-she can't affect that anymore. Maybe a return of the gold, bronze and silver BESIDE the thumbs system might be good, this way the author can show his-her appreciation. Creativity is the sudden cessation of stupidity.
