I really have to wonder now if THIS topic is the pure reason why prizes aren't offered anymore? I mean, if a member enters a crappy photo or chop, but someone seems to pull off a 1st place, does mr. monty really want to reward someone for a half-*ssed job?
I would think mr. monty would want to reward well done, technically sound entries that get 1st place. :)

1. DOF photos are great but they do not make great sources for chopping.
2. a good source for chopping can be the worst shot of a shooting but:
- sources do not need to have a perfect composition or color balance
- the object needs to be sharp
- a source needs to be a (simple but) interesting object, this can be a headphone, a wallet... ordinary but interesting objects to chop
- a source needs to be big
and so on...
Please before you click on that button (to make a photo in your portfolio a source) think if others actually can do something with those sources, the question "I'm curious what choppers can do with this photo" is not something that helps choppers.

BUT choppers can do something as well about this:
1. if you see a nice photo in our contests which would make a great source: ask if the author is willing to make it a source
2: go through the contests suggestions regularly and leave your opinions on them, If you leave a comment maybe also point out why a certain suggestion would be a bad source, educate the suggesters to look through choppers eyes.

To make 1 thing clear: mods do not pick the sources, they have 0% influence on the choice.

It all makes sense, I'm more than happy to supply photos for chops, and have clicked many of my photos, but perhaps not always realising what would make a good chop. Reading this makes me realise an easy ways to get more good chops would be if 'choppers' left a request on photos during a contest if they think it would make a good chop. It is of course then upto the author to decide if they want to share, but at least we would have a better idea of what would make a good contest.

Yes Vibeke, it is to easy to blame someone who is willing to help out with supplying sources rather then being active yourself by looking at entries and suggestions and ask actively for that entry to be a source or saying why a certain suggestion wouldn't make a good source.

Choppers should be happy with every suggested photo but they should also be more active in commenting and the search for good sources. Every comment on a suggested source helps the admin in the end to select a source which makes choppers happy.

It takes choppers maybe 5 minutes every 2 or 3 days to got through the suggestions and comment on it.

I truly hope all these forumposts do not scare photographers off in suggesting sources, please keep them coming. Every suggested source is welcome, it's a job for us all to filter out the better suggestions.

I'm unsure of what type of photos the good choppers like, but I just uploaded a few in the suggestions spot. They are clear with many shapes and gadgets that I would think would be easy to chop. I hope these are okay. If you like them, I can upload more?

finaly had an eye on this forum and saw this post. Mediocrity and friendly voting with a smile on the face and a friendly post on the forum saying "u are stupid.. this only depends on taste" is the reason i am not posting here anything.

Also PXLEYES, look behind for all the great users u have lost and see the quality of the work done in the old days vs some of the crap posted nowadays.

I think there are plenty new members with great talent. And if some "talented" members leave (and I use that word subjectively ) there will be another new member with talent to take their place. As far as "old days" there was plenty of crap entries back then to go around also.

There sure was Nator, what we may miss is old friends that we made here.
I know I sure do and keep in contact with some. Members come and go, I saw Oana has been back and a few others. One thing I liked about here is meeting people from all over the world.
It's a great life if you don't weaken

Sorry, but he's right. Of course there will always be "crap" entries...that doesn't explain the absence of top quality members, or the lack of new top members.
