What's the use of the "reply" feature in the comments section, when we already could have replied to comments anyway? IMHO it will only result in more flame wars. There's already a member who was recently banned who has resumed snarky comments on certain entries. Why can't we all just get along?

:o it's new and it's scary...

Don't worry this is not to start flame wars (there's at least 2 people needed for a flame war and you can always ignore to respond) it's just some extra fun option to for instance thank people directly for a comment, say you agree with someone else, etc. etc. etc.

Do not use it if you don't want to, but I'm 100% sure most members will enjoy this new feature :)

Oh please, get real. If something can be abused, be sure it will be abused. We've been here before with other features that were discontinued for the same reasons. Doesn't anybody remember?
Remember the infamous "thumbs down" option?

How will this be more abused (or in other ways) as the existing comment system we have?
I do not see a single way how...

Well then, sit back and find out. ;) What did you think of the late and not very lamented "thumbs down" option, which was totally abused?

The thumbs down option I liked originally but was used in a wrong way, I agree with you that it was abused and therefor it was also removed.

However: the failing of one function should not be the reason not to add something new. If that was the case we would still have 1 level for all contest types (PS, photo, 3D and drawing), no award section, no friends page, no blog, no personal albums, no favs, no Mixed Media competition, no KO tournaments and so on.
All features which where added later on and which members enjoy. I know you do not enjoy most of the things I mentioned but they keep PXL alive and therefor benefit you too. To be honest there's some things I do not enjoy / use either, but I know others do, so that is OK for me. Otherwise I would have to make my own site...

We have to try new things, keep our noses to the future if PXL wants to keep the contests running. There's a reason why the PS contests went from 9 to 6 a week and only positive changes can turn that tide...

If we don't try to make changes (no matter how small like this) it for sure won't change and more and more good choppers will leave.

Is this a good addition? Yes I do think so but only time can tell, like you say.

So: if you (or anyone else) has ideas for additions: PLEASE pm me and I'll make sure the mods and admin will know about it. I love this site (and you do also) and still want to be around it in 10 years but that means we all need to make an effort to keep it running.

I'm not sure I see the point of it. As was pointed out, we could always "respond" to comments. I don't think it's evil, but I think it makes the page unnecessarily cluttered

I'll break it up in a few simple steps for those who don't understand:

1) Person A makes a comment with an opinion
2) Person B wants to agree/disagree or thank person A
3) Person B wants me make a reply to person A without using @personA
4) Person B presses the reply link
5) Person B types a comment and submits it
6) The comment shows up directly below the comment from person A
7) Person A gets notified.
8) Person A is thankful someone replied to his/her comment

I hope it is clear for you now.
