I seem to be just a bit confused about this, perhaps a mod can clarify. In all of the contest details, it lists the date and EXACT TIME, right down to the second of how much time everyone has left to submit. Now it would be just frikken awesome if there was a way that the site could close contest submission deadlines as part of the timed coding, rather than manually removing entries that were late and still able to enter, even though the submission time had expired. It seems many entries entered late are allowed to stay, even though the submission time expired hours earlier. They could still submit but only because the contest was not set to vote only, denying new submissions. Usually mods just remove these late entries but some it seems lately tend to slide. So my question is this. Does the submission deadline officially end when the time runs out or is this rule bent now to when the mods posts that we can no longer enter?

Personally, I have no problem with a few entries that were maybe a few hours late and allowed to stay because the mods closed the contest a little late and I honestly don't think it's fair to remove them. But I want to know if I can also take advantage of the situation, meaning I can get some last minute late entries in too and have them still count without being pulled for being late?

Josh, just to set the record straight the mods don't close contests, this is done by the admin.
As far as I am aware all late submissions are removed and mods go by the time stamp on the entry. So if you upload an entry and it states the time is after 8.00pm on the last day then it "should" (in all fairness to other members who have rushed their entry to meet the deadline) be removed.
Sometimes an entry may be edited, or source links added to meet a warning and these may have been done after the submission time. The time stamp then may be after the deadline but that is not a "new" entry as such.
Leaving an entry to the last minute to submit seems a little silly since we have 8 days to do it. I know sometimes the last minute is the only time we have, but then we must run the risk of it not making it in time and possibly removed.

We did ask MrM to set up the system to automatically close contests as this has been an ongoing problem even in the PST days. MrM assesses every request on a need basis and obviously believes there are other things more important or he just doesn't have the time to implement it at the moment.

OK, mods don't end contests. Got it. But there are right now, at least 5 entries in various contests that entered hours later. I know because when the submission time is passed, at this point all new sidebar entries from last week are officially late.

You know, I would personally love to be the guy, who only has the one job, who flips the switch every week to end the contest submissions. I know, admin does it but, I don't know? Perhaps admin could code a switch that would only control the shut off submission status.

And I volunteer to be to be the official contest submission ender switch flipper. How's that for a job title??? This way, it would be one less thing Frank would have to worry about, because a wiling volunteer like me, already so devoted to the site, will be more than happy to cover it. Hey, with only 1 job assignment, how can anyone screw that one up? I promise you this. If Frank goes for this wacky contest submission ender job I pitched, I won't be late and a real sticker for the term "On the dot". I'm shooting for perfection.

Honestly, if you think about it? By giving me (or someone else, a mod, maybe) the ability to just end the contests RIGHT when the deadline passes and not a minute late, there won't be any late entries to remove. Mods won't be tied up with removing late entries and save a few people a disappointing email about how their entry was removed for entering late, even though they were still allowed to submit.

I just volunteered for the job because I'm NOT a mod and already very attentive to the site as it is. IFf doing something like this every week on a regular timely basis will make the site run just a little bit more smoothly then it's all good

Why haven't the contests ended yet. It says Nov 13 as the deadline for completion, but it's Nov 14 today. Am I missing something?

I think the contests doesn't end automatically, it needs to be ended by Mods, don't worry, be a little patience.

Contests are closed manually by our admin, it happens he's late sometimes.

Probably his ran away again... damn it!
