you can stack the different exposures in PS and then manually selectively do erasures and levels adjustments, however, it is extremely difficult and time consuming. The HDR programs take the highlights, shadows and mid-tones from any and all exposures you do, average, adjust then create in a few minutes what it takes hours to do manually...if you are so inclined, be my guest, however, the programs such as CS5 HDR option and Photomatix do such a wonderful and fast job...I don't see a need to do it manually.
The exception is of course...if you're doing an HDR of a moving subject...you can create the initial HDR in another program...then in CS5, overlay the HDR over the correct exposure and erase the 'ghosted' layer to expose the underlying correct layer and blend/feather the edges to give the final image the appearance that there was no movement.
BTW...I am 'itsmymoment' there was a unforeseen problem in the forums and my account got 'lost' and I had to create a new one....LOL, but thanks
MY FIRST HDR!!!!!!!!!!!

I copy all that, itsmymoment. Understand the time and effort is automated by the photomatix software and or the PS HDR function. Thanks.
