Many great and maybe not so great artists have left the world with quotes and wisdoms, which one got stuck with you, inspired you...?

OK author first:
"if your image is finished you've lost the battle"
that one always reminds me there's always something you can do to improve the "final"result and there should be always new techniques to learn.
The quote was made by an old artteacher I had.
Creativity is the sudden cessation of stupidity.

Here's a quote from Dave Hunt, the best realist painter I know personally:
"It's sad, but these days art is anything you can get away with".

Here's my "quote". There are pieces in which you "complete". They will always be "complete", but that doesn't mean that you have progressed. Every day/ week/ year that goes by that piece that you finished- you should be able to look upon and know that you could have done better; and the next one that you draw - show improvement. By keeping the "flaws" in the original, it will always remind you of what you need work on. This is a good one that I use for my example..
Image

The one on the left was drawn when I was 19 years old (1987). After 22 years, I redrew it (the one on the right), and you can see that there is a lot of improvement. Not on the muscle tones show better, the veins, the details in the hands, sword...

Everyone can be an artist, it takes that special person to be able to "see" what it is that they want to draw, and create that look on paper.

So if the spirit doesn't work with the hand, is the resulting art a hand job? :-

Probably Da vinci meant that some artists are very skillful and technically can draw limbs and anatomy in impressive way and perform all kind of drawings and poses however when they bring out a piece of art it’s empty of depth and theory.
