50 More of the Most Famous Landmarks on Earth (Part 2)

Originally, a landmark literally meant a geographic feature used by explorers and others to find their way back or through an area. Now, a landmark includes anything that is easily recognizable, such as a monument or a building, or any other spot to designate places that might be of interest to tourists. Last time we covered some of the most obvious, like the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty. But there are so many countries, and even more landmarks… So here are 50 more for you to recognize. Are you ready for another trip around the world?

Nice places, but creation & nature should not be in same compilation.

  2. RayTedwell says:

Thanks again Hilleke, another nice collection. 😀

To Shabu, that is YOUR opinion. Many of us can appreciate each of these works of art on their own merit. The juxtaposition of natural and man-made is a fascinating subject, and beauty can be found in both sources. Next time don’t speak as though you are stating fact, when in reality you are stating your own personal and narrow views.

  3. Qamar Soomro says:

Man versus Nature. Man has worked hard to beautify Nature with his work and created these monumental works. Amazing indeed.

To “Throw Back.”: Please find yourself a “Christian” website that will display your “Christian” architecture….no…wait.. had you seen the ENTIRE POST…St Peter’s is included.

Awesome lists, thanks for compiling them! Would love more!

PS- I’m pretty sure the photo you included of Pompeii is actually from the ruins of the Roman Forum. Hard to tell from that angle, but it doesn’t actually look like Pompeii.

Really great photographs! Beautiful sites too. As I’m sure from the comments there are some places that should probably be added. Some that came to my mind are the Space Needle in Seattle and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. The Chrysler Building? The Panama Canal? Anywho, more places to travel to right?! Great job again!

Awesome work, Hilleke. We, the more lazy and conceited jerks are far lesser human beings for not being able to enjoy your beautiful work without criticizing it instead. Don’t listen to those morons that all they do is complain about you having missed a landmark. They don’t know shit.

    Hilleke,
The pictures in Parts I and II are soooo beautiful. I love the fact that you took the time to compile and share them. Who of us will ever see all these places in a lifetime? Thank you for this gift. It was spiritually uplifting to me today. I hope you can take the comments made as suggestions and not criticism. There is nothing more beautiful than those things we have experienced ourserves that have moved us to great emotion! Keep up the good work!

Gorgeous pictures. Thank you for including so many landmarks from around the world that many may not have heard of. I learned much. As an Angeleno, I am surprised to see the Hollywood Sign included here. But I suppose it, along with the Chinese Theater, is our most recognizable landmark. Remarkable job, you just can’t please everyone.

  55. Eddi says:

Awesome lists (“,) I’ve been to a good few and now the two lists have given me some more travel ideas. It’s a shame people feel the need to complain about what is or isn’t included instead of just perhaps making a suggestion for places for a third list……it’s all subjective isn’t it and if all the amazing places on this beautiful planet were compiled into a list to suit everyone there would be literally thousands. I look forward to a third list soon with some more beautiful photos.

  58. marriedtotravel says:

CN Tower in Canada, really. If you put that you have to put the Space Needle in Seattle. But the best view in Seattle is from the Smith Tower. Our guide on the Seattle By Foot tour recommended it on the Seattle Coffee Crawl tour I took. Love all the rest of the locations! Too many, too little time!

Just beautiful! With all these suggestions of places you should include, are they also going to arrange for your travel and living costs for all this to be accomplished? If so, do you need a 75 year old assistant? Just a note: have you been able to see Crater Lake, in Klamath Falls, Or.?

I really like this pictures! The world is a beautiful creation and there are thousands of places that one can name a landmark. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and one should not critise, try to see the pictures from someone else’s viewpoint. This collection would have contained millions of pictures if it had included every single landmark or fascinating place. Thank you for this great collection.

The yankee cemetary in Normandy has no place here. In the great world wars the americans were absolutely useless so to honour them over the true heros is shameful, especially in Normandy. The yanks in Normandy – ha. How about honouring the true heros of Normandy.

The yanks only fight in wars for personal gain and the same went for the great wars. Took them long enough to help.
