100 Professional Depth of Field Photos

Creating a professional depth of field (DOF) effect in your photos is a quite difficult task and requires some practice and the right equipment. The challenge in DOF photography is managing to let the sharpness gradually decrease on each side of the main subject. When the art is mastered however, some pretty amazing results can be achieved… In this post we present you 100 fantastic results of this technique of photography.

  8. Dave Sokolowski says:

    Not to sound like a downer, but achieving shallow DOF is actually pretty easy, and is accomplished by using a large aperture (~<4). Actually, it requires no effort, and cannot (legitimately) be done in post processing.

    Its really very nice photo collection…. i like to use for my presentation also….

    Keep it up….

  10. Timo says:

    @Sakis

    This is not an effect done with software.
    You can create this with using a large aperture (e.g. 1.4 – 2.8), long focal lengths and/or going very near to the subject (e.g. with a macro lens).
    These factors (also in combination) have an effect on the depth of field.
    Not to forget the sensor size. With a DSLR sensor you can get shallower DOF than with a small size compact camera sensor.

  12. Suz says:

    Nice, but there isn’t any information as to the settings, or any other details, that can help others learn how to achieve these types of shots…The blog is nice, the photos are nice, but it would be even nicer if you offer tips if you’re going to take the time to post, blog, etc… just my humble opinion! Great work, by the way!

  15. ikram bhatti says:

    its very nice snaps i realyy appriciateable very good work done 1 tip that i know to achieve DOF is as you increase focal length you are minimizing the depth of field and also maintain a shuttewr speed in the range of 100 to 160 and use more aperture but keep in mind that aperture should not disturb the quality of picture and it should show good details in it thanx

    […] I try to use some of these techniques in all of my photos.  I have discovered that I like taking depth of field photos most.  Before this class, I had always wondered how to make certain subjects in my photos […]
